How to Prep Your Skin for the Silly Season

Updated: Sep 7, 2022

It’s the most wonderful time of the year. Yes, happy holidays, Christmas joy and merriment are just around the corner. Are you ready?

With all the hustle and bustle of Christmas shopping, looking high and low for last minute gifts and food festivity organising, there’s simply no time to take a moment to nurture, replenish and enhance your skin.

But what if you made time? Read more from Nicole at Body Wellness and Beauty, for tips on how to prep your skin for the silly season.

Keep hydrated for that holiday glow

Work Christmas parties, get-togethers with friends and of course family festivities often lead to higher alcohol consumption.

While indulging in a Christmas tipple this silly season, it’s worth remembering that alcohol leads to a dehydrated dermal layer.

So, how can you still enjoy your Christmas cocktail and keep your skin hydrated?

  • Invest in a quality serum and apply it morning and night for dewy, radiant skin.

  • Combine the serum with a face mask as part of your daily skincare routine.

  • Drink plenty of water. Australian Christmas’ are often hot. Make sure you’re keeping up with your 2 litres of water a day. This will assist a healthy liver, plus keep your skin cells hydrated.

Fight the urge to sleep in your makeup

Those long, lazy days by the pool and in the sun, filled with fun and food can really take it out of you. We totally get that!

But despite all urges to collapse into your bed and drift off into sweet, sweet slumber, don’t sleep in your makeup! Not now. Not ever.

For best results, use an oil cleanser that doubles as a makeup remover. You’ll find in simply 30 seconds; your skin is clear and cleansed without feeling dry.

Sleep better knowing your skin is healthy and ready to take on the festivities of the next day.

Keep stress at bay

It seems almost, if not completely impossible to stay stress-free during the silly season. But trust us, when you find out what stress does to your skin, it will motivate you.

So, what can stress do to your skin?

  • Increase your cortisol levels – leading to acne breakouts and even skin aging acceleration

  • Plus leaves your skin more susceptible to bacterial infections, eczema, inflammation and skin disorders like hives, psoriasis and rosacea.

Feelings of stress during the silly season is likely unavoidable. Yet, there are tried and tested ways to reduce your stress from deep breathing and meditation, yoga and regular exercise.

Oh, and don’t forget to schedule in some me-time to enrich your body, wellness and beauty!
