It’s hard to believe that my humble Thornlie beauty salon is soon to celebrate its 10th birthday.
As I look back on the past decade, I can’t help but smile at the trials and tribulations of starting a small business, getting the word out there and welcoming so many gorgeous clients into my doors.

Find out how Body Wellness and Beauty began.
Budding plans, a change of mindset
It all began with a realisation.
Prior to Body Wellness and Beauty, I was a receptionist in the tool industry.
It suddenly dawned on me, “this is not what I’m meant to be doing” and this thought would not go away. From here, came the courage to trust my instincts, put myself, my physical and mental wellbeing at the forefront.
I had the quote “build it and they will come,” driving me. I always dreamed big but never in a million years would I have thought how fruitful and empowering my humble little Thornlie beauty salon business would become.
My life soon began to change for the better. My new beauty business venture brought me on a wonderful journey furthering my beauty education, establishing real friendships, and pursuing a vocation that fits with who I am and strive to be.
What I wanted to create
When the seed was planted, and the choice was made to change careers, I had to really focus on and finetune what I wanted to create.
Right from the beginning, I knew I wanted to build a hidden gem; a unique space within suburbia in which clients can escape and immerse into. This translated into the desire for my clients to enjoy top-quality treatments with the best products I stand behind.
It’s with this in mind, that my Thornlie beauty salon business was launched.
My clients are the true gems in my business
My clients have and always will be a big part of why I do what I do.
There’s something so special about being trusted with their beauty treatments, creating connections, sharing laughs and even the occasional tear.
I’ve shared in their excitement of engagements and weddings, the happy news of bundles of joy along the way, job promotions, retirements and many other major milestones.
Many of my clients have been with me from the very beginning, back when I was trading as Exclusively Nails Perth. They’ve stuck with me and supported me as I grew my business into the wellness industry with the inclusion of the Cocoon Wellness Pod, massage chair and building my wellness space.

What I’ve learnt and my advice to you
I’ve learnt that you need to be yourself and be genuine, whilst being upfront and honest about your business and what you have to offer. When it comes to my business, with its council approval, Insurance and being prepared and ready for my clients from the moment they step inside the salon, my clients know that I take my business seriously. Their time is precious and if you can make their time with you a relaxing and enjoyable one, then you’ve done your job.
Whatever your small business is or is envisioned to be, my advice to you is to be completely present during your service and to provide extra touches that make your service extra special.
My clients frequently comment on not just the services I offer, but the experience too.
For example, the quiet service option, complimentary fruit and nut platter and relaxing massages which are included in my manicure and pedicure treatments – it’s the little added extras that really make the experience.
Although your business might be small, the reality is that you created something special and special things always have a chance to grow.
Remember, “build it and they will come.”
Don’t give up. You’ll be proud of what you have achieved in 10 years’ time. I know I am.
